Berlin: The vegan restaurant guide

It has never been easier to eat vegetarian or vegan. Especially in Berlin, plant-based offerings are piling up at record speed!

We’re going to share with you our personal vegan restaurants and cafés. From food bowls and juices to waffles and cakes to burgers and köttbullars, there's something for every appetite and palate in our vegan eating out guide.

 „We can’t get
enough of it!"

1. Frea

FREA is Berlin's first zero-waste restaurant. Creating a place that is wholly sustainable combined with enjoyment and good food is the core concept of the restaurant (located on Torstraße in Berlin-Mitte). At FREA, not only is all the food 100% plant-based, everything is homemade - from the sourdough bread to the pasta to the dessert. What's more, FREA also has its own composting machine to turn all waste into soil ersatz within 24 hours, which is then delivered back to various partner farms. So their motto is no exaggeration: zero waste, full taste!

2. Smokey Greens

From pancakes to burgers: Smokey Greens in Prenzlauer Berg makes all vegan fast food dreams come true. And they prove once again: eating a plant-based diet does not mean having to make sacrifices. In fact, it’s quite the contrary. The burgers made with Beyond Meat are so close to the taste of real meat that you can hardly detect the difference. It’s ideal for all those who want to eat animal products but know for the sake of the planet that it would be better not to.

3 Superfoods & Organic Liquids

The name says it all: Here you can find everything your vegan (or vegetarian) heart desires. Whether you're in the mood for luscious banana waffles, a fresh açai bowl, or a classic avocado toast, here you will definitely find what you’re looking for. And to appease your appetite at lunch or dinner, the restaurant serves delicious bowls and soups.

4. Daluma

The Daluma is no longer an insider tip. This Berlin vegan hotspot has made a name for itself not only because of its diverse, plant-based dishes, but especially because of its renowned juices and juice cleanse programs. Daluma’s mission is to provide all of the body's nutritional needs with natural products and creating an offering for a more conscious and healthier life.

5. Brammibal's Donuts

Brammibal's is Europe's first vegan donut shop - and within a very short time has established itself as a Berlin fixture. There are now six eateries where you’ll find people lining up at all hours just so they can get their hands on those irresistible handmade, vegan donuts. Brammibal's mission continues to be giving the public high-quality alternatives to industrially produced donuts. All donuts sold here are vegan and made fresh daily on premise.

6. Café Neundrei

Café Neundrei in Berlin-Mitte is especially known for its distinctive vegan cakes, pies and bars, though they also carry sandwiches croissants, bagels and sourdough breads. There's something for every palate and desire. Our recommendation? The Almond Crunch Bar. We can’t get enough of it!

7. Möllers Köttbullar

Good news for all Köttbullar fans! Möllers in Kreuzberg offers the Swedish meatballs in a vegan version. They are served here in the classic way - with brown sauce, lingonberries, mashed potatoes and cucumber salad. Sounds good? It is! Is there a better reason to head over to Schlesisches Tor?

8. Lia's Kitchen

The next time you’re overcome by a craving for burgers and fries, make a beeline for Lia's Kitchen, located at Kollwitzplatz. A cornucopia of vegan delicacies awaits you: smokey BBQ mushroom burger, chicken avocado burger with seitan and quinoa-lentil burger are only a small part of the 100% vegan burger restaurant. Throw in a Caesar salad and crispy sweet potato fries and you’re all set. Life doesn’t get better than this.

9 Förster's

Förster's is another wonderful example that vegan doesn't just have to mean only salads and quinoa bowls. Here you can feast on vegan reinterpretations of German classics. Rouladen (beef rollups), Königsberger Klopse (Prussian meatballs), eggplant served with matjes-style cream sauce as well as delectable cakes and desserts. Moreover, the restaurant sources the majority of its ingredients from a Berlin organic supplier, so they can guarantee regional and seasonal.

10. Café Neue Liebe

This cafe makes all vegan breakfast dreams come true. An absolute favorite here is the Belgian waffles with vanilla ice cream, strawberries and roasted almonds, and there’s no better time to enjoy it than summer and no better ambience than in this charming neighborhood. The vegan croissants (along with oat cappuccino) are definitely must-tries, too!
